August 2023: Amarillo College

Email share

Amarillo College (AC) proudly supports the mission of Panhandle PBS and its longstanding commitment to sparking creativity and curiosity among lifelong learners of every age.

Having won the 2023 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, AC today stands second to none among America’s more than 1,100 community colleges – but AC will never rest on its laurels. AC President Russell Lowery-Hart, when accepting the Aspen Prize, said it best: “We will use this recognition as a spring board for greater improvements.”

The prestigious national accolade is awarded every two years and is based on student success, an area in which the College clearly excels. For example, AC’s three-year completion rate has practically doubled since 2015, soaring from 30 percent to 57 percent, well ahead of the national curve.

AC offers more than 140 degree and certificate programs on seven campuses in three Panhandle counties, at about a third the cost of a public university in Texas. AC’s Culture of Caring and its credo – to love students to success – are nationally known.

AC will continue its efforts to empower the people of the Texas Panhandle – always in parallel and often hand-in-hand with like-minded Panhandle PBS.
