Austin Meade will perform Friday at Golden Light Cantina.

By Chip Chandler — Digital Content Producer

From major Texas country bands to tons of Amarillo favorites, the music scene is hopping for the next several days. Here's your ultimate guide to all the tunes.

Austin Meade

In only three years, Austin-based Americana singer Austin Meade has released three albums and found his groove on the road with shows across the state. And he's still only been out of college for a little more than a year.

"I'm just trying to stay alive on the road, but it's been a lot of fun," said Meade, who'll return to Amarillo for a 10 p.m. Friday show at Golden Light Cantina, 2908 S.W. Sixth Ave.; cover is $7. Amarillo singer-songwriter Jason Hodges will open.

Meade grew up playing drums, then fell in love with the idea of performing live music after watching Cody Canada and Seth James perform in Victoria.

"I fell in love with meeting new people on the road, meeting new faces, and now it's cool because we've been doing it a while and ... I get to go back and see the same faces, see these old friends come out and they bring new faces with them," Meade said.

Meade's most recent EP, Heartbreak Coming, was released in the summer, his first studio experience with a full-time band contributing to the recording process.

"It's a good taste of what our (next full-length) will sound like," Meade said. "It's a little more showing of what we want to sound like in the future.

"This is the first one that has taken hold in certain markets, so now I know what I want to do with the next one."

He said the EP is a "snapshot" of his first year after college.

"Everyone goes through growing pains," he said. "I had been in a relationship for a long time and went into a new chapter from it, but it's not easy on either side.

"But it's not just about a girl. ... 'Written in Stone,' the last song on the record, is about me being scared to lose family members," he continued. "Sh-- gets real in your early 20s."
