Capitalizing on an opportunity presented last year by the COVID 19 pandemic, the Texas Plains Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will once again partner with Panhandle PBS to present the incredible stories of those who selflessly give their time, energy, heart and resources for the good of our local communities. The National Philanthropy Day Awards winners will be featured on a Panhandle PBS broadcast at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 and again at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21.
Viewers of all ages and walks of life will undoubtedly find inspiration in the stories of the philanthropists and people who they passionately serve.
In addition to the broadcast, the 29th Annual “Leading Through Giving” NPD Celebration will include a luncheon featuring keynote speaker Lynne Twist, author of The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life and founder of the Soul of Money Institute, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the Amarillo Civic Center. Tickets for the luncheon may be purchased at afptxplains.com/national-philanthropy-day.
Over the past 40 years, Ms. Twist has worked with over 100,000 people in 50 countries in the arenas of fundraising with integrity, conscious philanthropy, strategic visioning and having a healthy relationship with money. From working with Mother Teresa in Calcutta to the refugee camps in Ethiopia and the threatened rainforests of the Amazon, her on-the-ground work has brought her a deep understanding of the social tapestry of the world and the historical landscape of the times we are living in. Ms. Twist’s appearance is generously funded by the Amarillo Area Foundation, Mary Emeny and Barbara and Jim Whitton.
The Amarillo National Bank Heart of Philanthropy awards will also be highlighted during the luncheon and on the broadcast. Other NPD sponsors include CAPTRUST and the West Texas A&M University Foundation as Presenting Sponsors as well as the Amarillo College Foundation, Mary E. Bivins Foundation, Panhandle PBS and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center as Partnership Sponsors.
