Panhandle PBS to broadcast new series "Charlie Bee Company"

A new reality television series, "Charlie Bee Company," is coming to Panhandle PBS in April.

"Charlie Bee Company" follows beekeeper and bee removal specialist Charlie Agar on his ventures around the Texas Hill Country to "save bees and sweeten teas." Agar travels the area rescuing honey bees from sticky situations.

According to Agar, most honeybees in Texas are Africanized to some extent, which means they are more defensive than other varieties of bees and react to disturbances faster. Colonies of these bees can be dangerous and even deadly. This, paired with hot Texas weather, made for a bit of a difficult documentation process. However, Ashley Scott Davidson, a filmmaker with experience making wildlife documentaries with National Geographic and more, traveled with Agar for over a year to produce the series.

"Charlie Bee Company" features footage of Agar rescuing bees, as well as interviews with university researchers, exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at commercial beekeeping operations, and even an intense rescue of a beehive during a hurricane. You can follow along with Agar's beekeeping journey beginning Thursday, April 7 at 8 p.m. on Panhandle PBS.
