Dear neighbor,
We need your voice. Please contact your lawmakers today and urge them to oppose the proposed rescissions package that, if enacted, would jeopardize the work of stations like Panhandle PBS and undermine our ability to continue serving this amazing community in the many ways we have over the past 36 years.
At Panhandle PBS, we are deeply grateful for your continued support and partnership. Let Congress know that public media matters to you— that it strengthens our community, supports our children’s education, and upholds the values of civic engagement and local storytelling.
Even if you’ve already contacted your representatives about supporting public media, we urge you to reach out again.Congressional offices are counting calls and emails, and repeated outreach sends a clear and powerful message: This issue matters deeply to their constituents. Every call, every message reinforces the value of local stations and helps build the case to protect funding.
As a trusted community institution, our mission is to inform, inspire, educate, and entertain you, our friends and neighbors here in the Texas Panhandle and beyond. We are committed to keeping you informed not just about the issues of the day, but also about those that directly impact the future of public media.
Last week, the White House submitted a rescissions package to Congress, suggesting that funding for public media be eliminated from the next two years’ budgets.
Time is of the essence. The rescissions package is scheduled to be introduced in the House of Representatives today and could be put to a vote as early as tomorrow, Wednesday, June 11. That gives us just a narrow window to make our voices heard and urge lawmakers to reject this harmful proposal.
Over the past few months, public media has faced a wave of escalating attacks. Taken together, these actions represent the most sustained and coordinated threat public broadcasting has ever faced. Now more than ever, I encourage you to stand together with us to oppose these attacks and defend PBS and the vital services we provide right here in the Texas Panhandle including education, public safety, and community connections.
You can find contact information for your elected officials and learn more about how to make your voice heard at protectmypublicmedia.org. Thank you for standing with us. Together, we can protect the future of Panhandle PBS and public media stations across the country.
With most sincere gratitude,
