Who We Are

Filer image element

Panhandle PBS is the Panhandle's TV Station, dedicated to serving and celebrating the Texas Panhandle. More than just television, we are a vital community resource, connecting viewers to the stories, people and organizations that make our region unique.

Through engaging local programming, educational initiatives and community outreach, Panhandle PBS brings the Texas Panhandle together. We are proud to highlight the incredible work of local non-profits through The Gilvin Group, engage our community through events like our Studio Sessions, and tell impactful stories through documentary series like The Rain We Keep and Broken Bread.

From regional history to arts and culture, and early childhood education to lifelong learning, Panhandle PBS is here to educate, enlighten, entertain and empower the people of the Texas Panhandle. We're proudly local, proudly yours – and we couldn't do it without you.

Why is Panhandle PBS Essential?

Education

Panhandle PBS offers educational children's programming every day, for free. This programming is available over the air on our main channel every morning, and 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on our PBS KIDS 24/7 channel. Our broadcast stream can also be accessed online at panhandlePBS.org/livestream and on the free PBS App.

According to a study by YouGov, 90% of parents say PBS KIDS helps prepare children for success in school and 63% of parents voted PBS KIDS the most educational media brand.

In Texas, PBS stations reach over 30 million viewers, and more than 200,000 Texas teachers access PBS LearingMedia each month.

Safety

Through PBS WARN (Warning, Alert, Response Network) Panhandle PBS is part of a vital backup path for the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system. This means that if a cybersecurity incident or internet disruption to a carrier facility breaks its primary connection to FEMA, PBS WARN provides an immediate alternate source of inbound WEA messages.

According to a study by YouGov, 89% of Americans say PBS has an important role in providing emergency alerts to the public.

This is part of public television's commitment to strengthening the safety of all the communities served by member stations, including the Texas Panhandle.

Local

Panhandle PBS is the last locally owned and operated television station in the Texas Panhandle.  We remain committed to telling the stories of our neighbors, connecting with our community through events and community outreach, and serving the students in our area. To find all of our local programming, like The Rain We Keep, Broken Bread: Examining Senior Food Insecurity in the Texas Panhandle, The West Texas Boys and In Open Air, visit video.panhandlepbs.org.

– Represents .01% of the federal budget

– That equates to about $1.60 per person annually
