March Membership Drive to bring unique programming

During our March membership drive, tune in to special programming including music from Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash and Tina Turner and the return of Downton Abbey! Find all this and more on Panhandle PBS, February 27 through March 7.

Among featured programs:

  • In the op-ed style documentary, Rick Steves Hunger & Hope: Lessons from Ethiopia and Guatemala, travel host Rick Steves' concern with world hunger relief leads him on a rare journey outside of Europe. Rick meets struggling farmers in Ethiopia and Guatemala, and discovers what life is like for 700 million people living on under $2 a day. It will air at 1:30 p.m. on February 27.
  • Dolly Parton & Friends: 50 Years at the Opry is a celebration of the country music legend's 50 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. This special captures Dolly delivering some of her biggest hits on one of the most iconic stages in the world.  It will air on February 27 at7:00 p.m. and March 6 at 11:00 p.m.
  • Nancy Zieman: Extraordinary Grace tells the life story of her humble beginnings to become a beloved television host. Nancy became an unlikely public television icon through her show, Sewing With Nancy. For 35 years, viewers tuned in for her calm approach to sewing delivered in a friendly manner. Off-camera, her life was marked by several personal challenges, including facial paralysis. It will air 11:00 a.m. on February 27 and 1:00 p.m. on March 6.
  • Johnny Cash: A Night to Rememberfeatures a never-before-seen Johnny Cash concert from 1973, recently found in Sony's vault.  Songs include Big River, A Boy Named Sue, If I were a Carpenter, and Folsom Prison Blues. In addition, there will be an excerpt from a Johnny Cash documentary.  It will air at 7:00 p.m. on March 1 and 9:30 p.m. on March 6.
  • In Tina Turner: One Last Time, Turner’s final UK concert was filmed at London’s Wembley Stadium with a state-of-the-art stage set, 18 cameras, and one of the world’s top directors. Turner’s inspiring, powerful performance made it an unforgettable event.  It will air 9:30 p.m. March 2 and 11:30 p.m. March 7. 
  • Using archival audio interviews and classic performances, Loretta Lynn:My Story in My Words lets Lynn be the storyteller of her own remarkable life.  2021 marks the 50th anniversary of “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” the Loretta Lynn song that became a book, a feature film, and an indelible part of popular culture. Like so many other songs written by Lynn, the lyrics told the story of her life and spoke to women who struggled to make ends meet. Lynn’s simple, straightforward song stories gave legitimacy to the joys, heartaches, struggles and triumphs of daily life.  It will air at 8:30 p.m. on March 4.
  • AMERICAN MASTERS: How It Feels To Be Freetells the inspiring story of how six iconic African American female entertainers — Lena Horne, Abbey Lincoln, Nina Simone, Diahann Carroll, Cicely Tyson and Pam Grier — challenged an entertainment industry deeply complicit in perpetuating racist stereotypes and transformed themselves and their audiences in the process.  It will air at 8:00 p.m. March 5.
  • Downton Abbey Returns plus Downton Abbey Season 1 will bring MASTERPIECE’s award winning series back to your living rooms on Sunday, March 7.  The first episode of Season 1 will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the additional 3 episodes to follow. Then, Downton Abby Returns will air at 8:00 p.m.
