This month, Panhandle PBS will kick off our August membership drive with programs you love and a great lineup of special programming that you can only watch on PBS.
Among featured programs:
- Having earned 22 #1 career singles, 30 top 10 singles, nearly two dozen gold and platinum awards (U.S. and Canada), a Grammy Award, numerous CMA, ACM and American Music Awards and a sat on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Clint Black has had one of the most storied careers in modern music. It's been three decades since the release of his groundbreaking debut album, Killin' Time, which cemented the country music icon as one of the truest traditionalists in the game. In early 2022, the seemingly unstoppable legend out on tour with his wife, Lisa Hartman Black, and his daughter, Lily Pearl, for the "Mostly Hits & the Mrs." Tour. Clint Black: Mostly Hits & The Mrs. will air at 7:00 p.m. on August 13 and on August 16 at 8:30 p.m.
- Starring Natascha McElhone, Mark Umbers and Lily Fraser, this historical drama is set on the sun-soaked Italian Riviera during the 1920s. The daughter of a wealthy British industrialist moves to the breathtakingly beautiful resort town of Portofino to set up a hotel. Filled with mystery, intrigue and romance, the series is about personal awakening at a time of global upheaval in the traumatic aftermath of World War I and the rise of fascism in Benito Mussolini’s Italy. The Hotel Portofino, Season 1 marathon will air on August 14 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
- In the 1960s and early 1970s, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons recorded hit after hit and sold over 100 million albums featuring unforgettable tunes like “Walk Like a Man,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Rag Doll,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and “Grease.” The 2005 musical Jersey Boys, detailing those remarkable years, ran on Broadway for 12 years and won four Tony Awards, and just ended a long off-Broadway run in May 2022. 2022 is the 60th anniversary of the group’s first #1 hit, “Sherry,” and Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons are still touring throughout the U.S. and abroad to packed houses of thrilled fans from multiple generations. This solid gold PBS special was taped in April 2022 in the fabulous 10,000-seat arena at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. Franki Valli & The Four Seasons: A Life on Stage airs at 8:30 p.m. on August 15 and 20 at 5:30 p.m.
- Jazz trumpeter and multiple GRAMMY® Award-winner Chris Botti joins the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for an evening of jazz, pop, and well-loved standards. Recorded live from the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas, Botti and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra deliver a set of music guaranteed to delight audiences. Special guests include violinist Caroline Campbell, guitarist Leo Amuedo, and vocalist Sy Smith. Don’t miss Chris Botti & The Dallas Symphony Orchestra on August 17 at 8:30 p.m.
- For anyone who loves theater, this contemporary history of Broadway is pure joy. As audiences return to live theater, an all-star cast tells the inside story of the last time Broadway came back from the brink. On Broadway shows how this revival helped save New York City, thanks to innovative work, new attention to inclusion, and the sometimes uneasy balance between art and commerce. It will air at 8:00 p.m. on August 19.
- Go behind the scenes of the charming MASTERPIECE series about the world’s favorite veterinarian and his menagerie of animal patients. Based on James Herriot’s beloved books, All Creatures Great & Smallcaptures the warmth, down-to-earth wit and generosity of spirit that infused Herriot’s iconic characters and novels. Featuring highlights from Season 2, The Next Chapter includes interviews with cast members. It will air on Sunday, August 21 at 7:30 p.m.
