Thanks to partnerships with local businesses, every student at Amarillo ISD's Landergin Elementary School received free school supplies to kick off the year.

Commercial contractor Diversified Interiors of Amarillo and construction supply company Cowtown Materials, Inc., donated the materials.

The businesses donated enough supplies for all 278 students and then some, school Principal Ramon Garcia said. The additional school supplies go to teachers who will keep them in their classrooms for any additional students.

"They certainly know that a teacher's job is hard work," Garcia said of Diversified and Cowtown. "We're also a low-income school and they know that parents struggle to buy school supplies."

Partnerships between Landergin, Diversified, Cowtown, and other businesses that assist with events throughout the year also help the school build strong ties with parents, Garcia said.
