Childhood development and school safety will be among the central discussions at this year's annual education conference sponsored by the Amarillo College TEACH Club.

The Bruce Beck Conference for Future Educators will run throughout the day Friday, March 23, at the Amarillo College Downtown Campus, 1314 S. Polk St.

This year's theme is "A Golden Ticket to Success" and will focus on classroom management strategies for primary and secondary classrooms said Mary Clare Munger, AC education department chair. Classroom management is a topic in which many first-year teachers have expressed that they would have liked to have more training, Munger added. There also will be a session on the timely topic of school safety.

Featured speakers include Mark Williams, a teacher at North Heights Alternative School in Amarillo and an author. Amarillo Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Dana West also will be a featured speaker.

The conference is open to everyone. Lunch – Rudy's BBQ – will be served. Amarillo College students can attend for free, but a $20 entry fee is required for others. Registration is available online through the TEACH Club.
