Amarillo's Whittier Elementary accepts Blue Ribbon award in Washington, D.C.

Administrators with Amarillo Independent School District's Whittier Elementary on Tuesday accepted the school's National Blue Ribbon award in Washington, D.C.

The award was given to the school by the Department of Education. Blue Ribbon schools are recognized for academic excellence and making strides in closing achievement gaps among student groups.

Whittier Elementary, 2004 N. Marrs St., serves kindergarteners through fifth-graders in northeast Amarillo and is one of 342 schools nationwide to receive this year's award.
