Amarillo sixth-graders publish, send books to Kenya (VIDEO)

It began as a writing exercise that was part of the ordinary Texas standard academic curriculum.

What it has become was more than students and teachers at Bowie 6th Grade Campus could imagine. The students have written, published and sent books to help kids build a library for rural schoolchildren in Kenya -- about 9,000 miles away from Amarillo.

More than just a grade, the experience is showing children how to make positive impacts on their world and helping teachers impart lessons in a new way.
