Cliffside Coffee will have its grand opening Saturday after holding several days’ worth of dry runs serving beverages from the remodeled former Catfish Shack at 4212 S.W. 45th Ave.

The owners of what is now the second location for Cliffside Coffee bought and operated the Catfish Shack for a few months before converting it to a beverage bar, co-owner Mackenzie Groeneveld said.

“People were asking us, ‘Are you going to do catfish and coffee?’ she said.

The combination did not sound appealing.

Besides, Cliffside Coffee has been experiencing success since it opened its original location in the Chase Tower in downtown Amarillo in January, Groeneveld said.

The business she and her fiancé, Jpaul Dodson, started draws its inspiration from her time living in Seattle, a coffee mecca. The small building on Southwest 45th draws on the drive-through and walk-up service common there, Groeneveld said.

“It’s more of a convenience thing (there), rather than going in and sitting down,” she said. “We want to get our customers in and out but still have them have a really fun and pleasant experience while they’re doing it.”

Cliffside Coffee also focuses on more than just the beans. Customers can customize their coffee with any of at least 25 different flavors, she said.

The store also offers teas, infused Red Bull, and smoothies.

Hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday.

For the grand opening on Saturday, medium drinks will cost $1 for the entire day.
