The group that has brought us all things Joe will soon raise another branch — in Canyon.

Panhandle Restaurant Group, the force behind Macaroni Joe’s, Joe Taco and Joe Daddy’s, is remodeling space on the southwest corner of Canyon’s Square for a Joe Taco: Canyon version.

PRG is transforming the former Read’s Automotive into a restaurant that will seat about 100, counting the main dining room, banquet room, and patio, Kevin Hawkins said.

“We were down there in a meeting and ran into a couple of friends,” he said. “They just said, do you ever think about coming down here and told us about that building.”

Hawkins said Canyon’s re-emerging square creates a scene in which Panhandle Restaurant Group wants to take part.

In traveling to smaller towns, such as Granbury, “the squares are real popular,” he said, adding, “We hope it’s a big win for everybody.”

The new Joe Taco will rely on its predecessor’s trusted menu and should open in late September or early October, he said.
