Chet Garner likes to travel around Texas and show off the uniqueness of our state’s cultural diversity.
His “Daytripper” series airs on Panhandle PBS and Thursday night at 8:30, his latest 30-minute segment shows off — what’s this? — a Texas Panhandle cattle auction.
Garner’s foray way up here on the Caprock will give the rest of the state a chance to see what many of us know to be “the real Texas.”
Garner will be touring historic stockyards and will visit a cattle auction to witness the buying and selling of livestock.
I’ll offer this bit of a challenge. He should try to understand what the auctioneer is barking out as the cattle are paraded before buyers on the auction floor. It’s always been a fascination of mine, trying to interpret precisely what these individuals are saying.
Those who are there to buy the cattle surely speak the language. Not me. I’m too much of a city slicker to get it.
Anyhow, welcome to the Panhandle, Chet. Oh, one more thing: Be sure to kick the stuff off your boots.
