Dozens of students from around the region will display their finest artwork in an annual exhibition opening Friday at Amarillo Museum of Art.

The Texas Panhandle Art Show will feature works by students from kindergarten to 12th grade in both public and private schools around the area.

"AMoA is proud to provide an exhibition space for the creative work of students within Amarillo’s school district and from several other schools within Region 16," said Alex Gregory, AMoA curator of art. "There are some exceptionally talented students and dedicated teachers who inspire diverse forms of creativity in the visual arts.

"This exhibition is typically installed floor to ceiling with artworks, so there is plenty to see when you visit this exhibition."

Paintings, drawings, print, computer art, collage, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media will be included.

The show can be seen from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through May 18.

A closing reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 18, with awards recognition for some of the young artists.

"Another important aspect of this exhibition is the opportunity for graduating students to showcase a portfolio of their work for the opportunity to receive scholarships to attend Amarillo College or West Texas A&M University," Gregory said.
