From top Americana and Texas country bands to local favorites, here's your at-a-glance guide to music options through Jan. 19.

In the Spotlight

While this redhead's no stranger to national attention, Texas country star Cody Johnson is riding high on some breakthrough success.

Johnson — who'll return to Amarillo for a 9 p.m. Friday show at Midnight Rodeo, 4400 S. Georgia St.; cover is $20 in advance or $25 at the door — saw his sixth album, Gotta Be Me, peak at No. 2 on the Billboard country charts after its August release. (His previous album, Cowboy Like Me, climbed to No. 7 in 2014.)

The single "With You I Am" and its accompanying video is getting buzz all over, too: The New York Times' Jon Caramanica wrote in September that it's "meditative, a little stoic, convincingly plain and plainly convincing."

The video features Johson's wife, Brandi, and their 2-year-old daugher Clara Mae, and the song — which he cowrote with David Lee and Amarillo native and producer Trent Willmon — pays tribute to Brandi's presence in Johnson's life.

"I was 21 (when they met), and me at 21 was a lot different than me at 29, and she's been with me nonstop," Johnson said. "I was a little hellion. I had a very different focus in life and didn't know where I was going or what I was doing. It was obvious that the good Lord put me in the right spot at the right time, because she makes me better."

Johnson appears to be at the right spot at the right time in his career, as well.

"Man, it was an amazing year," Johnson said. "I don't know what the goals (for 2017) are. I just know we're upping the ante on everything from show production to where were traveling to.

"We're getting a lot of mainstream radio play for this single, and that's really cool to see that we're crossing those barriers."
