Amarillo's overflowing with music in the week to come — get all the details here! Plus, meet on-the-rise Texas band The Drugstore Gypsies.

The Drugstore Gypsies

After more than a year, The Drugstore Gypsies is finally ready to release its first studio album — and not a moment too soon for frontman Duke Ryan.

"It turned out to be an absolute winner," Ryan said. "I'm not just saying that because it's mine. It's really one of the best-quality records I've heard in a long time. I'm stoked on it, absolutely."

The Austin-based Texas rock band will make its Amarillo debut opening for Whiskey Myers at 9 p.m. Saturday at Midnight Rodeo, 4400 S. Georgia St. Cover is $15 in advance and $20 at the door for ages 21 and older, or $23 for ages 18 to 20. Call 806-358-7083.

The band formed about three years ago, but founding members Ryan, Dillan Dostal (lead guitar and vocals) and John Wilson (Hammond organ, rhythm guitar and vocals) have known each other since their days in small-town high schools south of Houston. The trio jammed together on and off for years, then brought bass player/vocalist Korey Davis and drummer/vocalist Rey Chapa on board.

"We're really a band of brothers," Ryan said. "A band of best friends."

Though it's the band's first show with Whiskey Myers, Ryan said he thinks they're kindred spirits.

"I'm really looking forward to this show because out of everybody in this scene, we can really kill it with those boys," he said. "It's going to be a lot of fun."
