New Year's Eve Roundup: Your options for ringing in 2017

Bid farewell to 2016 at any number of parties and events around the Amarillo area — and all your choices are rounded up into one convenient place.

Activities

Championship Roughstock Challenge: World-class riders will take on bareback, saddle broc and bullriding in two days of competition in the Amarillo National Center on the Tri-State Fairgrounds, 3301 S.E. 10th Ave. Rodeo performances are set for 7 to 10 p.m. Dec. 30 and 31 in the center, with a dance following each night. Happy Zoo Year!: This event runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Amarillo Zoo, 700 Comanchero Trail, featuring activities, entertainment and an early countdown to noon with a ball drop for the lions. The event is free with zoo admission of $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2 for children. Call 806-371-7911.

Noon Year's Eve: This event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Don Harrington Discovery Center, 1200 Streit Drive, featuring science demonstrations, crafts, karaoke, ginger ale and cookies and a balloon drop at noon. The event is $2 for members and $2 plus admission fees ($11 adults, $8 seniors, students, children and military) for nonmembers. Call 806-355-9547.

Amarillo Bulls:  The hockey team will face the Odessa Jackelopes at 7:05 p.m. in the the Amarillo Civic Center Complex Coliseum, 401 S. Buchanan St. Single tickets range from $13 to $23, or $9 for children ages 2 to 12. Call 806-242-1122.

First Day Hike:Kick off the new year in a healthy way with a late-night hike in Palo Duro Canyon. Hikers can meet at 11:30 p.m. at the Mack Dick Pavilion inside the canyon for a black-eyed peas and cornbread meal, count down to midnight, then leave for the first hike of 2017. Hikers should dress warmly, wear good hiking shoes or boots, and bring water. The event is free with park admission of $5 for ages 13 and older. Call 806-488-2227.
