The inflatable lawn decorations on wobbly view around Amarillo this season have nothing on what's in store at Palo Duro Canyon on Saturday.

Several hot-air balloons from Amarillo's Black Sheep Squadron will inflate for a Christmas in the Canyon balloon glow at dusk Saturday on the south end of the parking lot at Mack Dick Pavilion in the canyon.

"We want people to come right up on us, come up and say 'Merry Christmas' so they can get a first-hand look at what we do and how we do it," said squadron director Buzz Wills.

"This event is really unique," he said. "Any time you can go to the Palo Duro Canyon and see the balloons light up at night in the winter sky it's really something you don't often get to see."

Inside, hot chocolate will be served, Santa Claus will be on hand for photos, and live music will be provided by The DryLand Dreamers and Oakdale Elementary School honor choir.

Admission is free with a donation of a nonperishable food item for High Plains Food Bank after 4 p.m.; regular park entry fees will apply before 4 p.m.
