At this party, it's not a hallucination if the beer pong cups start moving. Well, probably.

Don Harrington Discovery Center will revive its popular Discover AfterDark event Beerology: Science on Tap at 7 p.m. Saturday at the center, 1200 Streit Drive.

Among the games at the adults-only event is beer pong with a twist.

"We're upping the ante this year," said Mandi Ried, the center's director of visitor experience. "We've taken our Lego robotics kits and created rovers, so the cups will move around on the top of the table, making it a little more difficult."

A little? On a night where beer will be flowing?

"Maybe later on in the night, we'll have to turn them off," Ried said.

The party will teach guests about beer chemistry, the physics of bar tricks and the reason why beer has fizz — "yeast flatulence," as Ried put it.

Amarillo home-brewing coop Long Wooden Spoon will offer brewing demonstrations, Bar Z Winery will discuss the science of wine, and Budweiser of Amarillo staffers will present info about hops and other elements of beer.

"We want to have a fun night for adults to come hang out, but we're the Discovery Center, so we throw some science in there, too," Ried said.

FireSlice Pizzeria will provide beer-inspired food, and Budweiser will provide specialty beers. Amarillo singer-songwriter Brandon Todd will perform live music.

Tickets are $40 for DHDC members and $50 for nonmembers.
