Amarillo pet owners will go dog-wild Sunday at the annual Muttfest.

This year's party, themed "Day of the Dog," runs from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Park, 2200 S. Washington St., near the Amarillo College campus.

"There are lots of dogs and just a fun day at the park," said Mary Ramirez, event co-chair and Amarillo SPCA board member.

Activities during the day include owner/pet look-alike contests, costume contests, face painting and more.

Attendees also can update pets' vaccinations at a reduced cost of $30 for a full set, have them microchipped for $25 or even have them blessed.

Humans can enjoy adult beverages from Party Stop or $5 sandwich plates from Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q, or they can shop at a record number of booths or at the silent auction, Ramirez said.

Attendees also can watch dog athletes compete in the Skyhoundz Canine Frisbee Disc Championship and more.

"It all helps a good cause," Ramirez said. "All the funds are used by the Amarillo SPCA."

And even if you're not in a participatory mood, there's still a good time to be had, she said.

"It's fun just to sit and watch the other dogs, too. There are all sizes, all breeds," Ramirez said. "The weather's supposed to be nice, so it will be a nice day to be out there."

Admission is free. Call 806-622-0555.
