A popular San Antonio mariachi group will headline Amarillo Opera's annual Musica Variada concert.

Mariachi Melodias de Mexico, along with several Amarillo performers, will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Buchanan St.

"We have a commitment to build an audience of all types, that is truly reflecive of the community," said David O'Dell, Amarillo Opera's artistic director. "Mariachi is a natural kind of conduit between Latino/Hispanic culture and the world of opera."

The eight-piece San Antonio band is celebrating its 10th anniversary and has performed around the country. Local performers include Lauren Nevarez, Faith Nevarez, Eric Macias and Job Najera.

Tickets are $20, plus fees.
