'Check Me Out' podcast premieres second season

"Check Me Out: A Podcast for Book Lovers" launched its second season on Aug. 20.
The series — a collaboration between Amarillo College's FM90 and Panhandle PBS — explores the power of books and the joy of reading through roundtable discussions about a variety of genres and themes.
"Check Me Out" features book excerpts and conversations with Texas Panhandle authors, teachers and librarians. Topics featured in Season 2 will include true crime, poetry, children's mysteries, comic books, rock biographies, romance novels, fantasy and tips on how to successfully run a book club.
In addition, segments called "Off the Page" feature author spotlights from Shanna Hogan, a New York Times bestselling true crime writer, and Donivan Blair, bassist for the rock band, The Toadies.
The podcast was launched in 2018 as a local engagement effort around the national PBS initiative, The Great American Read. That series centered around a quest to find "America's Best-Loved Book" and included online voting and a series of on-air specials hosted by Meredith Vieira.
FM90 is a student-operated, 100,000 watt radio station on the campus of Amarillo College. An alternative station, FM90 also airs specialty programming such as jazz, blues, country, Tejano, and R&B.
Panhandle PBS is the public television station for the Texas Panhandle, providing both national and local programing in a variety of formats — on-air, on-line, and across social media platforms — as well as local outreach initiatives.
