One of America’s greatest musicians will be celebrated in a new tribute concert.

Great Performances: Leonard Bernstein Centennial Celebration at Tanglewoodwill air at 8 p.m. Dec. 28.

August 25, 2018, marked the centennial birthday of legendary composer, conductor and teacher Leonard Bernstein. In keeping with Bernstein’s career-long relationship with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Great Performances partnered with the BSO for a 100th Birthday tribute concert at the orchestra’s summer home at Tanglewood in one of the largest and most significant performances celebrating Bernstein’s centennial.

Hosted by five-time Tony-winner Audra McDonald, the concert will feature a gathering of leading conductors including John Williams, Keith Lockhart, Christoph Eschenbach, Michael Tilson Thomas, and the BSO’s current music director Andris Nelsons.

Joining McDonald on stage for performances are guest artists Midori, Yo-Yo Ma, Kian Soltani, Nadine Sierra, Susan Graham, Isabel Leonard, Thomas Hampson, Jessica Vosk and Tony Yazbeck.

To complete this special concert, the BSO is joined by members of the international orchestras and ensembles that were central to Bernstein and his career.
