Explore the changing landscapes and shifting values of rural America in an era of industrial agriculture in the next Indie Lens Pop-Up screening.

Panhandle PBS and the Don Harrington Discovery Center will co-host a screening of the film Look & See: Wendell Berry’s Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. April 16 at the Don Harrington Discovery Center, 1200 Streit Drive in Amarillo.

In the film, director, producer and editor Laura Dunn offers a cinematic portrait of the changing rural landscape, as seen through the mind’s eye of writer, farmer, and activist Wendell Berry.

Presenting partners of the film screening include the Don Harrington Discovery Center, Amarillo Community Market, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension - Potter County, USDA-ARS Conservation & Production Research Laboratory, Wildcat Bluff Nature Center and Panhandle PBS.

The film will premiere on Independent Lens on Panhandle PBS at 9 p.m. April 23.

Through Berry’s poetic and words and the testimonies of his family and neighbors - all deeply affected by the industrial and economic changes to their agrarian way of life – the viewer sees the changing landscapes of rural America and Berry’s preference of taking the unworn path.

Filmed across four seasons in the farming cycle, Look & See: Wendell Berry’s Kentucky combines observational scenes of farming life and interviews with farmers and community members with lyrical and evocative shots of the surrounding landscape. Thus, in the spirit of Berry’s agrarian philosophy, Henry County itself emerges as a character in the film, a place and a landscape that is deeply interdependent with the people that inhabit it.
