An independent statewide ministry dedicated to improving the quality of public education will honor Texas Panhandle legislators during a breakfast in Amarillo.

Pastors for Texas Children, a group of pastors and other leaders of all denominations, has scheduled its first "Celebration of Public Education" breakfast on Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the Great Hall at Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1400 S. Polk St.

The breakfast will feature keynote speakers including the Rev. Charles Foster Johnson – founder and CEO of Pastors for Texas Children – and Jimmie Don Aycock, who served in the Texas House of Representatives for five terms between 2007 and 2017 and chaired the House public education committee.

During the breakfast, state Reps. Ken King, Four Price, and John Smithee, and state Sen. Kel Seliger will be honored by the group.

The event is open to the public. RSVPs are required.
