Oscar’s has returned to Amarillo, after a brief stint at Bushland.

Owner Oscar Soto was preparing to open his family’s Mexican food restaurant at 4602 S.W. 45th Ave. when we talked recently. Signs were installed and he predicted a mid- to late August opening, with the exact date being fluid.

The new spot is next door to Red River Steakhouse, and it will feature Ocscar’s signature breakfast burritos, some breakfast plates and biscuits and gravy early in the day.

The lunch menu will include the two most popular varieties — chile verde and carne guisada — plus chile rellenos, stuffed avocados, and other entrees.

Oscar’s will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

Soto said the family will have seating for about 20 diners inside and will offer carry-out and drive-through options.

The best thing about the restaurant business, Soto said, is meeting “the great people of Amarillo and the surrounding area.”
