The owner of the property where On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina operates is seeking a new tenant for ground lease, despite the restaurant company's claims that the real estate listing is in error.

Easley Waggoner Jr., a partner with Venture Commercial, a Dallas real estate company, said the owner of the real estate on which On the Border sits is looking for a new tenant.

Potter-Randall Appraisal District records show the one-acre site at 2401 S. Soncy Road is owned by the Ruth Staley Trust. It contains the 6,545-square-foot property. The combined appraised taxable value of both building and land is nearly $1.2 million, according to PRAD

“I know they have put it up for lease and that’s what they’ve hired us to do,” Waggoner said.

Yet, On the Border’s corporate office released a statement claiming Venture Commercial placed its sign in error and would be taking it down.

“We’ve been a proud part of the Amarillo community for 20 years,” the statement said.

However, Waggoner said the listing would remain even after Venture Commercial removes its sign Thursday.

"I’m not the landlord so I don’t work with On the Border directly in any way,” Waggoner said. “I deal with the future of the property, and it is up for a ground lease.”
